Military services announce furlough exemptions

Officials have announced that some military civilians will be exempt from mandatory unpaid leave as a result of sequestration, Government Executive reports.
According to the report, Army officials announced on Thursday that civilians working in safety and health positions and political appointees will be exempt from furloughs.
The Air force also has begun outlining plans to exempt civilians deployed to combat zones, local nationals and 24-hour medical staff, while the Navy is making plans to exempt political appointees, certain foreign military sales employees, civilians currently at sea and 24-hour emergency medical staff, the article notes.
