The man responsible for leading the overhaul of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will be stepping down from his post, The Hill reports.
An agency spokesperson confirmed on Monday that David Kappos, the director of the PTO, will depart by the end of January, according to the report.
Kappos, who joined the federal government in 2009, was a strong supporter of the 2011 Leahy-Smith America Invents Act, which switched from a "first to invent" to a "first to file" system, the article notes.
