Fund offers emergency grants for feds affected by Sandy
For the second time in just three months, the nonprofit Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund is providing disaster relief funds to federal employees.
FEEA is offering grants of up to $500 to feds who experienced major losses due to Hurricane and Post-tropical Storm Sandy
Eligible feds need to fill out an online disaster relief application. The organization will then prioritize grants for those with major property damage or other significant hardship, and the grant amount – a check issued to specific creditors – will be made on a case-by-case basis.
Most recently, FEEA helped nearly 600 feds with more than $800,000 in grants and no-interest loans for victims of Hurricane Isaac in late August, according to the organization's website.
Interested individuals can call 1-800-323-4140 for more information, or access FEEA disaster relief applications at
www.feea.org/Disaster. The group, which is supported by employee contributions through the Combined Federal Campaign and donations to special relief funds, also is calling for donations to FEEA's natural disaster fund to help cover anticipated demand.
