More job cuts at Air Force

The Air Force announced Jan. 11 that it will cut 4,500 more positions to finish out its fiscal 2012 civilian workforce restructuring.

In the announcement, the Air Force said it currently is surveying its workforce for a second round of voluntary separation incentive pay (VSIP) and voluntary early retirement authority (VERA) programs. Personnel managers provided civilian employees with eligibility surveys earlier this month, the department said.

Civilian employees eligible for the programs must apply by Feb. 3, and if approved, must separate or retire by April 30. The Air Force noted that its last restructuring move in November eliminated 9,000 slots, as well as added 5,900 positions in top priority positions.

According to the Air Force statement, this week’s announcement marks the end of the fiscal 2012 civilian restructuring effort. The department said it will evaluate the need for a reduction in force (RIF) once voluntary measures are exhausted, and hopes to be closer to a decision in the spring.

There is not shortage of funding in the AF Reserve. They go to conferences without AF approval, buy building they won't own and even after sinking $20M into it, and the leadership abuses authority by hiring his cronies wife in a made up GS15 position.

If the Air Force was really concerned about this force reduction they wouldn't create these Asset Management Forward Operating Agencies (FOA) that are being erected to justify ones empire building. At first, the HQ Asset Management was to move to San Antonio in a move to consolidate and streamline Asset Management, but I’ve seen that before. In 2006, the same thing was to happen and when they found out that they weren’t guaranteed a position it all dissolved. Now, the same thing was proposed, but the HQ AMC Asset Management head didn’t want to move so he used his “Used Car Salesmanship” and got these FOAs created filled with his “Subject Matter Experts (SME).” Yeah, Right. My grandson is more of a SME than these losers. All this boils down to is “Business as Usual.” No reduction if you kiss the right six or can sell an ice maker to an Eskimo.

Aww gee, does that mean we won't get funding for more golf courses and movie theaters?

Maybe I'm missing something here... if the ELIMINATED 9,000 slots, then ADDED 5,900 priority positions - How did this help the situation? And "priority positions" - my guess is they are at a higher "pay level" -- so did they really SAVE anything?
