USPS bolsters website with info in Spanish, Chinese

While critics may characterize the U.S. Postal Service as being out of date, the agency appears to have a close eye on customer demographics: USPS now offers Spanish- and Chinese-speakers the online capability to track packages, look up ZIP codes and get info on USPS products and services in their own languages.

Chinese is third most commonly spoken language in the United States after English and Spanish, USPS noted. The Postal Service said the website uses simplified Chinese, the form used most frequently for written communications.

Kelly Sigmon, USPS vice president for channel access, said the Postal Service Is looking for the changes to boost usage of the site.

“Other companies have seen 1 to 3 percent of their traffic driven by their multi-lingual sites,” Sigmon said. “We’re hoping for the same results.”

USPS said the multi-lingual features are the first big functional improvements to the site since its recent update.
