Bill would ensure military, federal law enforcement pay during shutdowns

A House lawmaker has introduced a bill that would compensate military service members and federal law enforcement personnel in the event of another government shutdown or debt ceiling crisis.

The sponsor of the Shield Act (H.R. 2886), Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.), said that “no service member or critical law enforcement officer protecting the United States at home or abroad should have to worry about their paycheck in the event of a government shutdown.”

In announcing the bill, Fitzpatrick said the legislation has the support of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association. FLEOA said the bill “properly prioritizes the role of federal law enforcement in sustaining protection for the American citizenry in the event there is a government shutdown.”

Geez, this is a rarity--a GOPster who actually values some kind of federal gov't service.

NO FEDERAL EMPLOYEE .. EXCEPT CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENT should have to worry about his/her paycheck in the event congress and the president continue with their petty childish political games…!!!

These sorts of idiotic games just serve to drive a wedge between varying members of federal service…if you want to avoid ‘class war-fare’; stop creating it.

then don't have a government shutdown! either pass CRA legislation or (heaven forbid) an actual budget on time. the solution is not to single out pieces of the federal government for special treatment; the solution is do your job - legislate!
