Smithsonian offers $25K buyouts

The Smithsonian Institution will offer lump-sum buyouts of $25,000 to employees who voluntarily resign or retire. According to the Washington Post’s Arts blog, Smithsonian Secretary Wayne Clough sent a memo to staff saying the staff reductions would help the museum reshape the workforce, meet future program needs and address “critical federal budgetary issues.”

This is the second time in two years the Institution has offered buyouts, said a report by the Associated Press.

Employees have until July 22 to make their decisions.
